Urge Congress to Protect the Jewish Community

Jewish Americans are facing an unprecedented rise in antisemitism, particularly since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and the ensuing Israel-Hamas war. Congress must take immediate, direct action to address the dangerous rise in antisemitism.

The Jewish American Safety Act (S.4576) aims to strengthen federal efforts to counter antisemitism in the United States, including at synagogues and Jewish institutions, academic settings, and online.

Urge your Senators to support the Jewish American Security Act!

Background

As Reform Jews, we are deeply concerned about the rise in violent antisemitism. Over the past few years, our Reform Jewish community has experienced several tragic antisemitic attacks, including the assault on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan (March 2026); the arson attack at Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, Mississippi (January 2026); and the hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas (January 2022), among others.  At this perilous moment of rising violent antisemitism, Congress must take meaningful action to bolster security and combat hate. Introduced by Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Senator James Lankford (R-OK), the bipartisan Jewish American Security Act would:

  • Provide $1 billion in funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to improve security at synagogues, Jewish institutions, and other faith-based and nonprofit organizations
  • Create a new federal grant program to support local law enforcement support of houses of worship
  • Help protect Jewish students on college campuses by designating an Antisemitism Coordinator at the U.S. Department of Education, requiring Title IV coordinator on campuses, and improving hate crime reporting
  • Holding large social media platforms accountable by requiring transparency regarding their handling of antisemitic content online
