Keep the Facts Front and the Rhetoric Down
Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs released a press statement outlining an internal reorganization of the Veterans Health Administration, focused on “improving health care for Veterans, empowering local hospital directors,” and more.  This announcement is not about job reductions, and it is important that it is treated accurately and responsibly.

We are asking VVA supporters to contact their Members of Congress who serve on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee (SVAC) and the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee (HVAC) and urge them to view this announcement for what it is: good news aimed at improving VA operations, and to not add any political positioning to make it appears as a crisis.

Unfortunately, misleading political spin can quickly turn VA announcements into alarming headlines, such as the recent VA announcement to not fill vacant positions being reported as “large reductions in workforce.”  That kind of negative framing creates unnecessary anxiety among veterans and can exacerbate existing mental health challenges, particularly for those already navigating stress related to benefits, healthcare, or transition.

Veterans deserve calm, accurate information and steady leadership, not manufactured outrage. Your voice can help ensure Congress focuses on oversight that supports veterans rather than rhetoric that harms them.

Please ask your Members of Congress to rely on the facts as stated in the VA’s official release, avoid politicizing VA administrative actions, and to communicate responsibly with veterans to prevent fear, confusion, and misinformation.  Use the Compose Your Message center on this page.

Facts matter. Veterans’ mental health matters more.
