On July 6, 2026, the EPA released a Request for Feedback in the Federal Register on a Draft Guidance for reducing risk from PFOA and PFOS in biosolids. While the Draft Guidance recognizes the limitations of the Draft Sewage Sludge Risk Assessment for PFOA and PFOS and briefly discusses the different ways biosolids can be disposed of, it does not go into detail. Good guidance should provide the information necessary to identify best practices, make sound decisions, and communicate why those decisions were made. Submit your feedback to the EPA and tell them that a final guidance must include:

• A comprehensive overview of existing state approaches to biosolid management and disposal
• Up-to-date information on beneficial reuse and disposal practices for biosolids
• Best practices for communicating PFOA and PFOS risk in biosolids to the public
• A risk evaluation framework to help stakeholders evaluate different reuse and disposal options
