It has been a busy few weeks on Capitol Hill, with Congress racing to complete the budget reconciliation process before Memorial Day and members of EDPMA participating in their Hill Day. To break down this activity and provide valuable insights into what’s happening in D.C., tune into the latest episode of Zotec Answers.
While in Washington D.C., EDPMA members and emergency medicine physicians met directly with senior lawmakers, committee chairs, and officials from the Centers for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO). These conversations focused on the reconciliation package, Medicare physician reimbursement, and the No Surprises Act. Their timing is especially critical as the House Energy and Commerce Committee prepares for its May 13 meeting where they are scheduled to address Medicaid and the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS).
Currently, the draft of the reconciliation package does not include a Medicare “Doc Fix” for 2025. Instead, it defers any meaningful adjustment until 2026 and fails to address the -2.83% cut in physician reimbursement this year. Time is running out to change the conversation. For five consecutive years, Medicare physician payments have been cut– amounting to a 33% decrease when adjusted for inflation since 2001. Without action, access to care will continue to erode.
