California: 2023 Legislative Session Adjourns – Contact the Governor
Last Thursday, September 14, California’s 2023 legislative session adjourned. Sadly, the below anti-sportsmen legislation was passed and sent to Governor Gavin Newsom for his consideration. Please take this moment to email the Governor and urge him to support the Golden State’s law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners by VETOING AB 28 and AB 1587.

As previously reported, Assembly Bill 28 imposes an additional 11% tax on the gross receipt from the retail sale of any firearm, firearm precursor part, or ammunition and establishes the “Gun Violence Prevention, Healing, and Recovery Fund.”

Assembly Bill 1587 requires specified entities that facilitate or process a payment card transaction to track the purchases of firearms and ammunition with a new merchant category code.

Unfortunately, Governor Newsom already signed Senate Bill 135, allowing the Attorney General to increase the fee on ammunition eligibility checks.

Do not forget to share this important alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen, asking them to also email the Governor urging him to VETO AB 28 and AB 1587.  The Golden State needs everyone to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
