On Tuesday, January 20, the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee is holding a meeting to hear legislation that takes a critical step for sportsmen and for the Second Amendment rights of Tennesseans who choose to rent their homes or places of business. SB 350 is scheduled to be heard at 2 p.m. in Senate Hearing Room 1. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you can watch it virtually.
Email committee members and urge them to vote “Yes” on SB 350.
Defending Tenant Rights and Firearm Ownership
Currently, many sportsmen and firearm owners who live in apartments or rental properties face lease agreements that restrict their ability to store firearms and ammunition safely within their own homes or vehicles. No Tennessean should be forced to choose between having a place to live and exercising their right to possess a firearm necessary for self-defense and hunting season.
Key Provisions of SB 350
SB 350 ensures that:
- Tenants and their guests will no longer face eviction for possessing and keeping firearms or ammunition in their leased residences,
- Firearms and equipment can be safely transported and stored in their vehicles within landlord-provided parking areas without fear of lease violations, and
- It protects the ability of firearm owners to transport their firearms and equipment from their residences to their vehicles through common areas.
Don’t forget to share this alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen. Urge them to use the Take Action button to contact the committee members and urge them to vote “Yes” on SB 350.
There has never been a more crucial time in sportsmen’s history than now to be involved and engaged in protecting our way of life. If we remain silent, others will shape the outcome. We cannot allow that to happen in Tennessee. The legacy of hunting, fishing, and trapping depends on our actions today. Urge your family and friends to join you and the Sportsmen’s Alliance in the fight against the rising tide of animal extremism and gun control activism.
