URGENT: South Dakota HB 1171 Threatens Blood Supply and Patient Care
The South Dakota legislature is considering a bill (HB 1171) that would require blood collectors to label blood donations based on whether donors received COVID-19 or mRNA vaccines and allow patients to request blood based on donor vaccination status in nonemergent situations. This bill creates scientifically unfounded barriers to blood transfusions and threatens the availability of this lifesaving therapy.

The health care and blood community in South Dakota opposes HB 1171, and we need your voice! Contact your South Dakota House legislator and urge them to oppose HB 1171. Blood donation and transfusion decisions must remain grounded in science and medical evidence, not unsubstantiated concerns that jeopardize patient care.
