The best way to educate legislators about the role of infection preventionists is to meet with them. While policymakers aren't always able to meet with individuals, they will prioritize opportunities to meet with groups of people to discuss important issues. APIC chapter meetings are a great way to engage policymakers and inform them about key issues affecting the profession.
