Currently, there are more than 13,000 children on waiting lists for Virginia’s child care subsidy program to help families better afford child care. Nearly one-third are school-age children. Governor Youngkin has proposed banning child care subsidy for new families with school-age children as of July 1. The state legislature should appropriate more funding to support families on the waiting list – not stop assistance for families with school-age children.
Legislators need to hear from parents that child care assistance is important for both families with young children and families with school-age children. Take action today by sending an email to your state legislators to urge rejection of the Governor’s proposal that would make it more difficult for families with school-age children to afford child care!
