Congress is currently debating bills that could impact research funding and future drug development and, unfortunately, cuts are on the table. Specifically, funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), two agencies key to the health and wellbeing of the neuromuscular disease community, is in jeopardy.
Specific concerns include:
- The Administration’s proposed budget slashes NIH’s funding by 40%, an unprecedented cut to our research ecosystem, and implements a reorganization and many new policies without community input.
- The proposed FDA budget could slow down review of sorely needed new treatments for the neuromuscular disease community.
By cutting and impeding research funding and drug development, these actions will jeopardize the health and wellbeing of generations of individuals with neuromuscular disease to come.
Urge Congress to oppose these funding cuts and support robust funding for the NIH and FDA!
