For those in the neuromuscular community, ensuring robust medical research is vital. Medical discoveries and breakthroughs made at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) lead to promising drugs and therapies that can truly empower people living with neuromuscular conditions.
The NIH is the biggest funder of neuromuscular disease basic, translational, and clinical medical research in the world and it results in:
- Thousands of researchers driving innovation
- Economic growth
- Life-changing treatments
Over the last 10 years, 25 new and approved therapies were developed in large part because of NIH research. That is why Congress needs to continue to support this vital research.
However, the latest proposal by the Administration aims to cut NIH funding by over $5 billion dollars. For those in the neuromuscular community, especially those still waiting for a drug or therapy for their condition, medical research funding cuts are not acceptable.
Urge your members of Congress to reject NIH cuts and provide robust support for medical research funding!
