08/07/23 PHARMACY VOTER ALERT (MS): Mississippi Gears Up for August 8th Elections
Action Alert
Tomorrow the pharmacy community leans into Mississippi’s 2023 primary election, taking its civic duty to new heights. NACDS RxIMPACT is calling on you to rise to the “Pharmacy Voter” challenge of learning more about who is running for office in your state’s upcoming elections by utilizing pharmacyvoter.org.

Kentucky’s May 16 primary advanced candidates for Governor. Both New Jersey’s June 6 primary and Virginia’s June 20 primary held state legislator races. On August 8, Mississippi’s primary election will vet candidates for not only Governor, but the state’s fifty-two senate seats and 122 house seats.

Although most regularly scheduled state legislator elections took place in 2022, voters in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, and Virginia will elect 578 of the 7,383 legislative seats or nearly 10% of all state legislators on General Election Day November 7th.

As an active and engaged Pharmacy Voter, you have seen concrete examples over the years of how governors have played a critical role in the future – and fate – of pro-patient and pro-pharmacy policies and whether they are enacted into law. Governors have called for special legislative sessions that granted more time to build support, added to or took from state legislative policy or funding proposals and sat in major power positions deciding whether a bill would be signed into law or rejected via veto. Put simply, governors can have significant impact on the pharmacy agenda.

It is critical you engage in the election process as 2023 election outcomes will have significant impact on the pharmacy agenda. NACDS RxIMPACT encourages you to visit pharmacyvoter.org to learn more about who is running for office. If you have any questions about this communication, please contact Heidi Ecker, Vice President of Government, Political & Digital Engagement via email at Hecker@nacds.org or phone at 703-837-4121.
