Urge your Members of Congress to Protect the CASA and GAL Programs from Cuts
In April of 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) terminated federal funding to national Court Appointed Special Advocates/ guardian ad litem (CASA/GAL) organizations because they no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities.” But the purpose of CASA/GAL organizations is to “advocate on behalf of children who have experienced abuse or neglect.” The termination of critical funding will harm American children who are in the midst of some of the worst days of their lives.
For over 30 years, the U.S. Congress has funded all aspects of the CASA program including training, technical assistance, financial support to state programs, and more. Cuts to these programs will impact more than 200,000 children involved in child abuse and neglect proceedings. While National CASA/GAL appeals this decision, your members of Congress need to be made aware of the dangers of these cuts. Please take a few minutes and contact your elected representatives and ask them to immediately contact the DOJ to express their concern about the impact of this decision on America’s neglected and abused children.
