Thank Congress for Finalizing SMA Research & Other Legislative Priorities

The recently enacted Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 includes several important priorities for the SMA community.

They include:

  • Designating SMA as a priority research topic, making it eligible for funding within a key federal research program;
  • Extending the FDA's Priority Review Voucher Program, which incentivizes research and development for rare diseases; and
  • Streamlining the process for out-of-state healthcare providers to deliver specialized care for Medicaid beneficiaries.

The inclusion of these provisions in the final bill would not have been possible without the strong advocacy of the SMA community and the support of Congress.

Please consider taking a moment to send a note to your Members of Congress to thank them for their support of SMA community priorities.
