Natural disasters such as hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, and floods are increasingly disrupting the lives and livelihoods of Americans.
A short- or long-term out-of-state relocation due to a natural disaster or other emergency can create unique challenges for individuals with SMA. For those who rely on full-time caregivers to assist with their daily activities, they could risk losing access to their state's Medicaid-funded caregiving services if they have to temporarily relocate outside their state of residence due to an emergency.
The Disaster Relief Medicaid Act (H.R.3990; S.2071) would help address this challenge by ensuring that individuals who rely on Medicaid, including Medicaid caregiving services, do not lose access to their essential healthcare and caregiving services if they are displaced by natural disasters or emergencies.
Ask your Members of Congress to meet the emergency needs of people with SMA and other disabilities by sponsoring the Disaster Relief Medicaid Act.
