Prior Authorization and Payer Coverage
Action Alert
While the use of prior authorization was intended to control costs and safeguard the appropriate use of medical treatments, it has increasingly weakened and delayed patient access to medically necessary care. Payors and plans have routine control over the services patients receive despite the medical expertise held by podiatrists. Long wait times and care denials are especially concerning given our role in preventing infections, wounds, and lower-limb amputations among patients with diabetes and vascular disease.
